Preparatory Workshop Towards the European Sensor-Systems Cluster
organized by European Commission, DG Research and Innovation
Directorate Key Enabling Technologies - Unit Advanced Materials and Nanotechnologies
hosted at Covent Garden 2 (office COV2 5/108)
Place Rogier 16, 1210 Brussels (Belgium), 27 November 2014
The EC planned a Workshop inviting at Brussels (27 November 2014) more than 70 experts such as managers and coordinators of FP7/H2020 projects and other European actions/initiatives in order to establish some EUROPEAN CLUSTERS in the challenging field of the Characterization including Sensor Technologies, Modelling and Validation/Metrology.
The final aim of this EC initiative was to implement a policy in order to maximize impact of EU investment in research and innovation to avoid defragmentation and duplication.
An effective aggregate on Sensor-Systems was clearly evident with a strong impact with the participation of SMEs, large companies, end-users and academia/research to create a critical mass in order to strengthen European leadership and industrial competitiveness.
Some key presentations were given during the Workshop and a Steering Committee (SC) with leadership in the Working Groups was appointed, including a Chairman of Steering Committee.
The SC started to meet by telco and exchange of documents in order to depict a Position Paper, Flyer and Logo, Webpages, Dissemination, Roadmap of the European Cluster under sponsorship by EC Officer, Dr. Hans-Hartmann Pedersen.
The SC decided after discussion and in agreement with EC Officer to nominate this cluster as the European Sensor-Systems Cluster (ESSC) .
A campaign for recruitment of new members and affiliated stakeholders from academia, research and industry is in progress. A registration e-form is available in these webpages.
This Preparatory Workshop involved some European Speakers from FP7-H2020 projects, COST Action TD1105, Industry Association Managers, International Experts, Scientists, Practitioners, and Stakeholders.
The workshop identified various pan-European and main national/international networks/clusters in sensor domain (e.g., COST Action TD1105 - EuNetAir, Nano4Water cluster, AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement, ETP Nanomedicine - diagnostics or MNBS Concentration and Consultation Workshops.
